If you are blogging your great stories to your peeps — and you should be — are you using photos to liven up your posts?
A great photo, cartoon or illustration can help you make your point in with much more eye appeal. But if you’re a regular blogger — and you should be — using stock photos can get expensive. And sometimes stock photos are just so, well, stock.
There’s a terrific way to get free photos, video and other artwork — even music — for your blog posts. If you don’t know about Creative Commons, you’re missing out, from a number of perspectives. First, a definition, Creative Commons is “a nonprofit organization that increases sharing and improves collaboration.”
It provides free, easy-to-use legal tools to everyone from individual creators to large companies and institutions through a simple, standardized way to grant copyright permissions to their creative work. The Creative Commons licenses enable people to easily change their copyright terms from the default of “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved.”
As a blogger or artist, it allows you to co-author or collaborate with others by using what they have already created to combine with your ideas to make something new. If you are the original artist, your work gets viewed, displayed or heard, and — perhaps most importantly — it is credited in the manner you decide. Everybody wins!
So head over to Creative Commons, click on “Find,” and explore your options! Just be sure to credit the owners with anything you choose to use. Oh, and you can also use the Creative Commons license on your own blog or web site posts!
